Toran is actually a wall hanging that is placed above the door on
special occasions. The name means “entranceway” or “gate”. The
embroidery stitches are done in cotton or silk thread on a cotton
base. The stitches are done in the herringbone stitch and the chain
stitch -exclusively. The toran are usually edged with cotton cloth-kind
of like using bias tape. Often, shisha mirrors are incorporated to
add a bit of shimmer.
