Leheria technique
is another very popular tie and dye method. These are elaborately
tied, brightly dyed striped turbans and odhanis. Leheria in Hindi
literally means waves. This is a method of resists dyeing whereby
the material is rolled up and tied tightly at intervals, then dyed
so that the sections that have been used remain undyed and the untied
portions take the colour of the dyebath. Colour must penetrate right
through the tightly rolled cloth so the leheria technique can only
be applied to highly permeable, thin, loose cotton or silks. Different
patterns like horizontal, strips, diagonal stripes, chequered patterns
and multicoloured stripes can be obtained. |
